Quarterra Opens South Carolina Community

The developer began construction of the 303-unit community in April 2020 and completed it in September 2022.

Quarterra Multifamily and its joint venture partner Cresset Partnerships have officially added 303 apartments to Charleston, S.C.’s multifamily markets with the opening of Cormac. The joint venture began construction in April 2020 and completed the in September 2022.

Quarterra reports that the project was capitalised in the Cresset Diversified Qualified Opportunity Zone Fund I. The vertically-integrated developer tapped its in-house general contractor, Quarterra Multifamily Builders to construct the community, while Axiom Architecture served as the project’s architect and BB+M Architecture was in charge of interior design. The project team included Thomas & Hutton, which provided civil engineering services and landscape architecture, as well Terracon Consultancy who handled geotechnical engineers.

Cormac Apartments, now completed, offer studios, one- and 2-bedroom apartments from 540-1,510 square feet. Units were constructed with Nest smart thermostats and keyless entry. They also feature stainless steel appliances, quartz countertops, hardwood flooring, and granite countertops. Amenities include a rooftop patio, a pool, a clubhouse, s fitness center, s bike storage room, s coworking spaces, s package lockers, and s rentable storage. Cormac Apartments also included a three-story parking structure with controlled access and 19 charging stations for electric vehicles. The community includes 13,068 sq. ft. of retail space, and two public courtyards on the ground level.

Located at 1310 Meeting Street Road, Cormac Apartments is approximately a quarter mile away from I-26, which connects residents to the area’s employment centers. While it is only roughly three miles away from downtown Charleston and its restaurant and retail options, the community is also next to local attractions like The Refinery, Pacific Box & Crate and The Wonderer.

Create communities in the Carolinas

Quarterra Multifamily has partnered with Cresset Partners to develop the 312-unit Cormac Apartments in Summerville, S.C. Quarterra also partnered up with Nuveen real estate for the development of the 312-unit Embblem Cane Bay North located in Summerville, S.C. The joint venture began construction on the garden style apartment community in December. This was the first phase of the overall development.

Quarterra, a developer in Charlotte, N.C. has recently begun leasing its 273 unit Miller & York project. Construction on the Charlotte property began in July 2021 and is expected to be completed in July. Quarterra’s development manager, Pat Foster, told Multi-Housing News in the past that the company is considering expanding their footprint across the Carolinas, as they are the top-performing markets.
